PREMIERE MAY 11 AT MALMÖ DOCTORAL THEATRE

"It's simply impossible to imagine this" Expressen

Playwright and actor Tove Olsson has openly and surreptitiously had her cell phone on REC during everything from private conversations and interviews to citizen meetings, therapy sessions and boxing training. The recordings have now become a play that brings together a diverse gallery of people from geographically, socially and economically diverse parts of Sweden.

Perhaps it has never been clearer than now how intertwined Sweden is with the rest of the world. Global trade, world politics and international conflicts have consequences that are felt right outside the door and citizens are left to take a stand, act, save the world or save themselves. Through herself and those who happen to end up in her path, the play's Tove tries to grasp an elusive contemporary world. We get to follow along on a very personal journey where the perspective swings between micro and macro and the boundaries between private life and the outside world begin to thin out.

In collaboration with Lumor and Folkteatern Gävleborg, Malmö Dockteater continues to explore the documentary genre of puppet theatre for adults. We have previously treated the Employment Service with puppets and cardboard scenography in the award-winning performance Funktionell Dumhet and the theatre world in dollhouse format in the fictionally autobiographical Skvalpet. In Det Nya Riket we explore new aesthetic forms with half-meter-high puppets and an intimate style of performance where three actors maneuver and give voice to over 15 puppets.
