The World is full of Married Men

by Jackie Collins

Malmö Puppet Theatre's staging of Jackie Collins' first novel in collaboration with Malmö City Theatre. In meticulous 1960s environments in dollhouse size, a story full of lies, passion and lust for power unfolds.

In hotel rooms, nightclubs, film studios and rooftop terraces in swinging London in the 1960s, millionaires and photo models rub shoulders with housewives and Hollywood directors. Life is about career, partying and sex. The World Is Full of Married Men is a lustful mix of soap opera, satire, pornography and drama where everyone has to fight their way through to achieve their goals.

The performance was praised by critics and audiences and was performed to full houses at Malmö Dockteater in winter 2021, at the Performing Arts Biennale in Västerås in June 2022, at Intiman in Malmö in autumn 2023 and at Kulturhuset Stadsteatern in Stockholm in autumn 2025.

Now we are guest performing at The Yard Theatre in London in July!

The Hunters at Karinhall

by Carl-Henning Wijkmark
directed by Erik Holmström

As the World teeters on the brink of collapse, the Olympics approach, and Nazism is on the rise, a decadent, erotic hunting orgy unfolds in the forests near Berlin for the Nazis' inner circle. Norwegian marathon runner Roar Trøgesen finds himself as a reluctant spy in a power game where no one knows who is hunting - and who is being hunted.

Based on the Swedish cult novel The Hunters at Karinhall, the Show mixes historical facts, spy thrillers, pornographic satire and uncompromising puppetry for adults.

In The Hunters at Karinhall, three actors bring more than 100 puppets to life amidst Hermann Göring's private hunting party in the summer of 1936.

The work will be premiered in Copenhagen at Mungo Park and will then be rehearsed again with our Swedish ensemble to play at Bastionen in Malmö and at Turteatern in Stockholm.

Stray dogs

by Eva-Maria Benavente Dahlin
based on a novel by Andrea Abreu

"Those two girls are like the little yogurt cups in the grocery store—stuck together."

Isora carries the memory of a dead mother and a necklace with the Virgin of Candelaria. Shit carries a fear of everything, while her parents toil in the tourist hotels in the south. Shit, Shit, Isora calls her Shit – because shit is beautiful and exquisite like the mists around the pine trees. They dream of becoming thin, of going and swimming in the sea and of living and dying together. “If one throws herself off a cliff, the other will jump after her”

With the help of dolls and objects, Shit and Isora's world is embodied in a dark and grotesque "coming of age" for adults, where the dolls give voice to the loneliest time of childhood.

Anette,
You are the main character in your own movie.

By Erik Holmström

When Anette, at the age of sixty-four, goes to the cinema and sees Il Gondoliere, a movie  about the aging Giuseppe who comes out as gay, she is so deeply affected by the film that she decides to change her own life. She gets a divorce and focuses on fulfilling herself. Life is not over just because you are about to retire.

Malmö Dockteater performs a low-intensity puppet show that takes place in the middle of everyday life. With a realistic puppet theater aesthetic, we delve into a life journey that does not entirely live up to expectations.

Played in Malmö and Stockholm April 3-May 9, 2025

A Stairway to Heaven

Malmö Puppet Theatre turned 10 years as a Theatre and celebrated with a performance by and with the theatre's founder Erik Holmström.

As a lone puppeteer, he maneuvers an entire puppet world on stage and creates a fantasy of a theater production without boundaries. Here, the actors ask themselves what it means to be human and literally sacrifice their lives for art. With the help of mechanical stage machinery, they travel to the end of the universe and back into the union of the egg and sperm in the life-creating moment. Welcome to a dream that slips out of your hands, a theater performance that loses its thread, a poem about a reality that surpasses the poem, a performance by puppets for puppets.

The performance was made in collaboration with Turteatern

Inferno.

In homage to Dante, Strindberg, Fellini and Minimello, Inferno is a puppet show about a low-intensity breakdown. Enrico is a respected theatre director who recently turned 42. He is expected to come in with a new script but he has lost his grip. And just like in all really good films, it is uncertain whether the main character is alive or dead, or if it is all just a dream.

Malmö Dockteater continues to invent its own puppet theatre for adults. The performance is created using a mixture of toilet roll puppets, photomontage, live projections and sound effects. It is a collage of poetry and documentary, low budget and hi-tech, jokes and death anxiety, film and theatre.

Played in Malmö September 20 - October 5, 2024

Dinosaur World.

Humanity is facing its greatest threat yet - the threat of extinction, of having made its own existence impossible. What are we going to do with our lives while we wait to die? Malmö Dockteater digs up the dinosaurs, brings them to life and asks them for advice in an existential and humorous puppet show by and with the Danish performance collective PERSONA NON GRATA.

Dinosaur World is a performative puppet show that explores the encounter between dinosaur and human, between being alive and becoming extinct as a species. The show is created using a mixture of foam, ready-mades, video, robots and sound worlds.
