A staircase to heaven.

Malmö Puppet Theatre is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a performance by and with the theatre's founder Erik Holmström.

As a lone puppeteer, he maneuvers an entire puppet world on stage and creates a fantasy of a theater production without boundaries. Here, the actors ask themselves what it means to be human and literally sacrifice their lives for art. With the help of mechanical stage machinery, they travel to the end of the universe and back into the union of the egg and sperm in the life-creating moment. Welcome to a dream that slips out of your hands, a theater performance that loses its thread, a poem about a reality that surpasses the poem, a performance by puppets for puppets.

"But this anniversary production is first and foremost a deeply serious exploration of what theatre can do, in relation to a world and a humanity that is steering us in self-destructive paths."

- Swedish Daily

"Here we are surprised with something truly new. "Stairway to Heaven" is truly a puppet show worth seeing."

- Aftonbladet

"To say that this is a play in and of itself is not enough; it is more than that. Sometimes I find myself trying to sort out what is real and what is pretend, before I remember that it is all a play. I feel both impressed and brainwashed at the same time. (…) This is exactly the kind of theatre I have been longing for: Where you may not understand everything that is happening while it is happening, but where you have fun in the meantime and also have a lot to think about afterwards."

- Southern Swedish

"A Stairway to Heaven" is in many ways a brilliantly intelligent exploration of the boundary between life and art, where the audience gets delightfully lost among all the meta-levels and theatrical antics."
