Anette,
you are the main character in your own movie

"The image of two doll-like women sitting smoking weed and tanning their lips is lovely beyond all sense, and at the same time we know that the intoxication is transient. Anette's faith that her fellow human beings will be happy to receive her seems almost infinite, but her fall through the world's circles is also both touching and terrifying."

The city stands and sways in childish silhouettes and light seeps through uneven window panes. The dolls' unique way of depicting the distance in human togetherness appears as if cut in glass. The expression as a whole is touchingly sad and at the same time sharply humorous.

Actors Kajsa Ericsson and Erik Olsson perform all their roles on stage, that is, for the puppets and speak their lines. It is done so incredibly coordinated and with such empathy that you almost forget that it is not the actors' own bodies that are acting. The voices carry the personal tones, emotions and gestures and add something extra enchanting.

For Erik Holmström, the central issue is, as usual, to point out how we as individuals can be inhibited in our vitality by heavy social structures. Erik Enocksson's cinematic music and sound image alternately carry dreams and suffocating resignation. The fantastic puppets designed by Maja Döbling, as well as Holmström's confident dialogues, reflect a present where everything feels pre-negotiated. Where we can only relate to soullessness and cling to duality for fear of facing ourselves.

Premiere September 27 at Bastionen
Anette goes to the cinema and sees the Italian film Il Gondoliere, about the Venetian Giuseppe who comes out as gay at the age of seventy. She is so affected that it becomes the point of no return in her own life. Would it be too late to achieve your dreams just because you are about to retire? She decides to change her life and realize herself.
Malmö Puppet Theatre puts on a low-intensity performance that takes place in the middle of everyday life. With a realistic puppet theatre aesthetic, it explores a life journey that doesn't quite live up to expectations. We follow the sixty-three-year-old Anette in both humorous and painful situations when life no longer has a manual.
