The performances in Lund have been given as part of VASS performing arts that dare.
"If there are only 40,000 jobs, then we either divide the jobs that exist,
and then we get to have low-performing people who are both lame, deaf, mentally ill, blind, deaf, wheelchair users, fasten it so it's not visible, beautiful people with operated breasts who just like their bodies - then we get to have the whole spectrum. But then working life has to look different. If that's the case, I'm again ten years ahead of my time.
Because in ten years, this will be gone. Because we have nothing left. We only have the ripples left!"
- Former Director General of the Swedish Public Employment Service, 2014.
In the performance Skvalpet there is another performance also called Skvalpet, which is also inspired by the same quote. The puppet Erik Högström has decided
to interview these low-performing types of people and put together the texts for a socially critical full-length play.
The quote is taken from Malmö Dockteater's debut performance Functional Stupidity and is the source of inspiration for Malmö Dockteater's new performance Skvalpet.
Malmö Dockteater continues to explore an artificial reality in puppet theatre form. This time on a scale of 1:18. We witness a rehearsal where life and art do not flow together, where heated political discussions do not occur and improbable events never occur.
