"From pieces, memories and trash, she patiently builds a kind of girlish aesthetic that is full of utmost care and that goes deep into the mind" Aftonbladet
Limmerskan and The Glue Movement is a performance, an installation,
a fanzine, a room for searching for the missing parts and close-up studies of solidifying glue bubbles. What are you fixing? What has broken? Do you remember the smell of your childhood glue?
The work is based on artist and actor Ellen Norlund's alter-ego Limmerskan (The Glue Girl). This shadow self has created her own universe where she relates everything to glue and mending.
Through glue and fragile materials, the brokenness of memories, bodies and dreams is closely studied. It is an investigation of loneliness and the longing to belong, to be someone else, to break free.
The audience is invited to the Glueskan laboratory. In a fluid repetitive gluing and tearing, mending and crushing, cutting and pasting with the images, melodies and materials found in our everyday lives, an alternative reality is formed. Here, an inconsistent and emotional logic prevails that follows the streams of glue down into underground labyrinths and through endless inner landscapes - straight into The Glueuniverse.
Malmö Dockteater continues here with its investigation of objects and materials to create aesthetic experiences. Through associative crafting, making homemade fanzines, photography, collage, chance and conscious creation, glue becomes a concrete material, a metaphor and an expression in its own right.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Ellen Norlund is an active actress and artist, educated at the School of Drama and Music at the University of Gothenburg (2005-2009). Since then she has worked with, among others, Moment Teater, Orionteatern, Uppsala City Theatre, Ungscen/öst, Potato Potato Scenkonst and is a co-director of the performance group Universalsköte.
Ellen works with theatre, performative events, fanzines, installation and spatiality. She is interested in experiences at the intersection of visual art and theatre, and strives to activate the audience's tactile experiences of their surroundings.
Limmerskan and The Glue Movement is an ongoing art project that is taking place on social media and has made an impact at the Stockholm International Comic Strip Festival (2016) and at Galleri Verkligheten in Umeå. At Malmö Dockteater, Limmerskan opens its laboratory on a full scale for the first time, unfolding its universe and allowing all art forms to interact in one and the same work.
