The performance Functional Stupidity is the employment service on a shrunken scale, based on the reportage book We Just Listen - a story about the employment service by sociologist and labor critic Roland Paulsen. The book is an in-depth study of people who in different ways maintain a system that few actually believe in. Read more about the book here.
Using a large number of backdrops and perspective paintings on a scale of 1:2, a model world is shown that is familiar to most people. We follow the doll Roland in his study of the employment agency; the strategies of the employees, the structure of the bureaucracy and the morality of the working society.
The lines in the performance consist of authentic quotes from staff meetings and interviews with employees at the employment agency, but also with managers, politicians and a former CEO.
